“Spring makes its own statement, so loud and clear that the gardener seems to be only one of the instruments, not the composer.”
Geoffrey B Charlesworth
My birthday is in the depth of winter when a gardener often dreams of spring, yearning to get her hands digging in the dirt. Imagine my delight when I found a birthday surprise from a neighborhood friend in my mailbox, on a cold February day, to transport me to the garden. The gift was a homemade jar of lemon-rosemary gardener’s hand scrub, beautifully packaged. Spring has finally sprung and I am digging in the dirt and cannot rave enough about this wonderful hand scrub!
First off, the scrub smells fabulously fresh, like spring! It is all natural and made with ingredients you likely already have on hand. The sugar and lemon zest exfoliates skin gently and leave the hands smooth. The olive oil moisturizes yet does not leave the hands greasy. The lemon juice and zest give the scrub its fresh scent and provide cleansing and skin brightening properties. The rosemary adds an aromatherapy element as well as natural antiseptic benefits. Rosemary is believed to also relieve muscle pain and improve mental clarity. All that in a scrub? You bet! And it is so easy to make. It would be a lovely Mother’s Day gift with a plant and a new pair of gardening gloves perhaps. But it’s not just for gardeners…it is a wonderful hand cleanser to keep handy by the kitchen sink. Now if that scrub could just help me remember all the latin names of the plants in my garden!
