Seafood Pasta Salad

While vacationing in Maine, I love the abundance of  fresh seafood almost as much as the quaint harbors and friendly people.  This summer salad was inspired by trips to Maine.  Pasta salads are a staple in summer cooking and this one is a fresh option with bright lime and cilantro overtones, dramatic squid ink bow ties and spicy sautéed seafood medley of shrimp, scallops and squid.   Squid ink pasta can be found online at or in specialty food shops.  Fresh summer flavor comes from the addition of big handfuls of herbs, plucked right from the garden. The salad is  versatile and can be composed with your favorite seafood and the herbs on hand.  Enjoy!image


  • Servings: 4
  • Difficulty: easy

  • 7 oz squid ink bow tie pasta or any bow tie pasta
  • 16 oz of seafood of your choice( Trader Joe’s Frozen Seafood Medly with shrimp, scallops and squid, thawed is a great option for salads)
  • juice of 3 limes
  • 6 T olive oil, divided
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 t hot pepper flakes
  • 1/2 c cilanto leaves
  • 1/4 c flat leaf parsley
  • 2T chives, finely chopped
  • Lemon or lime wedges to serve
  1. Cook pasta according to manufacturer’s directions.
  2. Sauté the seafood in 2 T of the oil in a medium pan.  Add the garlic and hot pepper flakes.  Cook until seafood just loses its translucency.
  3. In your serving bowl, squeeze the juice of the limes.  Add the herbs and whisk in the remaining oil to emulsify.  Add the pasta, then the seafood and toss together to coat.  Salt and pepper to taste.  Serve with extra lemon or lime wedges.  Can be eaten at room temperature.

    • I think Maine might be a bit like Denmark in the summer. Love that cooler weather and that gray blue light and all the wonderful seafood. Wish I was waking in Maine this morning, but alas, back In hot humid Pennsylvania. Thanks for visiting Naina!

  2. I just love Maine and go seafood crazy when we are there! Your pictures are amazing and have me wishing I was there and eating your amazing dish. I first had squid pasta in Venice Italy. Your dish sure brought back some wonderful memories!

  3. Wow, not sure I’ve tried that type of pasta before, but it sure looks good. Love any type of seafood and I’m sure this was mighty fine! Love Maine too, I dream of lobsters whenever I think of Maine. Gorgeous sunset.

Unless I go looking for them, I don’t receive them anymore. Love Toronto. Lived there for 7 years before moving to PA to study. I am hoping to go visit friends this fall. Enjoy your trip!       • Great Johanne, I’ll look forward to your post for this week’s FF. I wonder why you aren’t receiving my posts? Do you receive by email or The Reader? I receive all mine on The Reader, but I must confess, I too have been a bit behind on catching up with all the travel. We too lived in Toronto for 9 years, loved it. We’re going back this time for a memorial we’ve organized for my ma in law (with all the relatives). I’ve rented a condo near Queen St. W (the real trendy area) and our girls from NYC will be joining us too. Hubby and I hope to go to Wards Island which was one of our fav spots near the city. Yes, we must get to Chanticleer soon. We were in NYC last weekend and I saw the High Line for the first time which I will be blogging about, also the NY Botanical Gardens. Looking forward to your dahlia post. 🙂

      • All my favorite spots in TO! I lived in the Annex and my practice was at Spadina and Bloor. I could walk to queen St W! There was recently a garden bloggers’ conference on the Toronto Islands with a parden tour I had never heard of. If you want to read about it, look up Empress of Dirt Blog and she has a link to it and a tour documented. I love the Highline gardens. So ingenious! I used to receive your blog by email. It might be in reader which I don’t go through as much.

      • Yes, that is what prompted me to re-visit Wards Island Johanne. I follow a few gardening blogs, and I saw some of the Wards Island posts. My husband and I used to frequent Wards when we were dating, so I want to go back for old times sake. That’s wierd about how you do not get notifications any more. Would love you to try to “follow” again, as I’d hate to lose touch. Besides, I have a great Quebec post coming up :). I used to get all the notifications by email at first, but it flooded my inbox, so now I just pull up the Reader everyday, and it appears on there. Sometimes though I’m not able to get to the Reader due to other commitments, and that’s probably when I lost track of your last few posts. Anyway, looks like we’ve caught up 🙂
