Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It’s not about the food for me but all about the gathering with loved ones and taking time to reflect on life’s many blessings.
Today I share with you our Thanksgiving table. The inspiration was the glittered pumpkin in the center of the table which I placed on an embroidered bronze organza runner. I surrounded it with gourds, mini pumpkins, pheasant feathers, seed pods, rattan spheres, horn candleholders ,silk artichokes, bittersweet vine, mercury glass votive holders and 3 large glitter oranments in gold and bronze to pick up on the glitter of the pumpkin. The rest of the table elements were all foraged from my back yard: pine cones, dried astilbe, dried oakleaf hydrangea, dried sedum Autumn Joy and sweet gum seed pods. I heaped all these around the table to create a feeling of abundance and bring loads of texture. I made name card holders out of twigs and twine and used gold cardstock. Casual dishes in fall colors were chosen and set on rattan chargers. Gold napkins were tied in birch bark napkin rings. Amber glassware completed this harvest tablescape.
One of our family’s tradition is to set out pen and paper and invite everyone to jot down whatever they are thankful for and place their note in a pumpkin tureen. During dessert we pass the dish around the table and each read out loud the sentiments. We have fun guessing who wrote them. The more people there are, the harder the guessing! And there is no limit to how many grateful messages each person can share! To learn how to make the découpaged leaf hurricane seen above, please click

To see how I made the place card holders:

Cut 2 twigs slightly longer than your placecard. Cut a 5 inch length of twine and wrap it around each end, tucking the ends between the twigs or with a dot of hot glue.

Among the many blesssings I reflect upon this Thanksgiving, I am truly humbled and grateful for the wonderful friendships around the world my blog has brought into my life, this first year as a blogger. It has been a wondrous journey. Thank you.

You KNOW I had to pin those placecard holders!!! What a great idea! You will see that pop up on one of my tables, no doubt!!!
I’m with you…Thanksgiving – despite the fact I spend hours in the kitchen – isn’t about the food. It’s all about having family here together. It is “my” holiday, and I love it. It always brings back lots of great memories for me.
You set a lovely, lovely table. Your place settings are just gorgeous!!! So chic!!! You really have a wonderful knack for mixing and matching!
I love the idea of the “What I’m thankful for” notes in the pumpkin tureen. It gives everyone a chance to put it into words, and it probably is one of the favorite parts of the day for each guest…even if they tell you it’s the pie! 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to you Alycia! Thank you for the compliments on my table. I broke it down tonight and boy I had crammed a lot of stuff on that runner! This year was an exciting Thanksgiving as all of our sons had been away at college and were reunited for the first time since August! I was told it was my best Thanksgiving ever but I think they were comparing me to college food service! I did ace the gravy and made a second batch for the leftovers and that was the first time it turned out, ever! At halftime they all came back to the table to read our expressions of thanks and that was the highlight. I am grateful to have met you and for your generous and steadfast support. Thank you. On to Christmas and I thought of you many times as I made plaid bows for the décor!!!
What a happy table. 😀
Thank you Juhls! BTW i love unique the spelling of your name. Have never seen it spelled this way.

Thank you Jenna! Those pheasant feathers were a splurge years ago but I reuse them over and over. In fact they just went into a winter planter today! Will be writing about that this week. I appreciate your visiting our Thanksgiving table. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!
Lovely table Johanne 🙂
Thank you Judi! I felt like Hilda “foraging” in my yard for that table decor! 🙂
